Water and environment protection

In addition to reducing the water we use in our bottling plants, we help protect local watersheds. Working together with government bodies, NGOs and others, we support conservation activities and raise public awareness.

Water protection

In Europe, Switzerland is like a castle surrounded by water. In order to preserve the abundance of the precious resource of water for future generations too, we are working closely with NGOs such as Praktischer Umweltschutz Schweiz (Practical Environmental Protection Switzerland – PUSCH).

Environmental protection

Carbon dioxide (CO2) absorbs some heat radiation while allowing shorter wavelengths of radiation, which make up the large proportion of the sun’s radiation, to pass through it. This property makes carbon dioxide a so-called greenhouse gas. To minimise greenhouse gasses, Coca-Cola HBC Switzerland put a new flue gas neutralisation system into operation at its plant in Vals in spring 2008, thereby taking another step towards CO2-neutral production.

This system neutralises our alkaline waste water using the CO2 from the flue gases of our heating system. This negates the need for us to chemically treat the water using hydrochloric acid while at the same time enabling us to reduce the CO2 emissions of our heating system: to-date we’ve already saved 120 tonnes of CO2.
